Position Overview:

As a key member of the Steward Partner’s IT leadership team, the Head of Applications is responsible for driving the future of the workstation technology platform by leading all aspects of the development and management of Applications across the application spectrum. This includes close partnership with business development teams and operational leaders for the creation of application roadmaps, collaborating with business leaders to drive requirements and scoping of strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings a strong business acumen and track record of success in process improvement that includes quality, user acceptance, interface with clients and the intersection of the applications development process in conjunction with delivery and technology operations.

The role requires an executive with demonstrated success in leading a dynamic organization through growth and differentiation by successfully harnessing and rolling out applicable technology solutions. The ideal candidate will presently employed by a financial institution within the brokerage or broker/dealer areas and/or a third-party provider of information or market data supporting the financial services industry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the Advisor experience development teams to maximize the evolution and product viability of the advisor experience
  • Plan and coordinate a delivery strategy for the implementation of the advisor and client experience platform and platform integrations involving one or more products. 
  • Work closely with the suppliers to ensure that all delivery teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction, and resources to deliver products effectively with realistic estimates timelines, budgets and customer satisfaction.
  • Track and report the status of development of various delivery teams, assigning work to the appropriate work streams and suppliers while ensuring that deliverable scope is adequately defined and quality of deliverables is achieved in accordance with the project Employ an inclusive, quantitative and fact-based approach to decision making; recognize and appreciate different perspectives.
  • Strong understanding and appreciation for customer requirements in a competitive and demanding environment. 
  • Oversee and effectively lead the Advisor experience Delivery team and associated functions including Books and Records and associated key domain areas as well as delivery of a seamless advisor experience to impact end-client capabilities.  
  • Closely manage all stages of SDLC including design, development, testing, and project delivery. 
  • Creation of a team-oriented, problem-solving culture focused on delivering quality software solutions that facilitate business success. 
  • Develop, foster, and evangelize new enterprise solutions and application delivery methodologies and strategies aligned with overall business goals. 
  • Ensures, through regular monitoring and measurement, that the service IT provides to internal and external customers are effective, efficient, and highly valued by the business. 
  • Establishes goals and performance objectives that align with the goals of the business. Monitors, measures, and reports results in a proactive manner to maximize commercial success of IT solutions. 
  • Holds direct reports accountable for achieving the goals and meeting performance objectives aligned with business requirements. 
  • Manage and maintain the applications for high availability access.
  • Participates and facilitates the maturing of the IT development teams by adhering to proven SDLC practices including source code management, build and release and continuous delivery of software
  • Stays current on trends, specifically around usability and mobility to ensure user demands are incorporated into development efforts.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of application development experience within the financial services or related transaction services businesses and possess strong business acumen in financial services; strong technology experience across a large scale and reputable platform.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the Wealth Management industry, preferably within a hybrid independent broker dealer / RIA environment, is essential.
  • Must have had hands on experiences in key technologies including Java, .Net, databases etc.
  • Ability to quickly assess information to form accurate conclusions and determine next steps across matrix resources.
  • Demonstrates strong experience in change initiatives that drive business performance and results with a track record of accomplishment in large programs/projects with an eye towards commercial drivers. 
  • Experience with different SDLC models to include Waterfall and Agile; Strong appreciation for managing cost while adding value across application portfolio. 
  • Track record and experience in managing offshore resources to SLAs, standards and customer requirements. 
  • Capable of driving execution while managing the delivery of critical reengineering projects, along with implementing effective quality and control improvements. 
  • Track record of building and sustaining credibility at Executive level; able to gain confidence, respect and trust; able to influence and lead a dispersed team.
  • In depth knowledge and track record of leading a dynamic technology organization with significant experience managing business transitions and integrations.
  • Strong leadership skills to provide motivation to a large team; able to grow and develop team members and create bench strength through mentorship and development.
  • Able to engage clients at the non-technical, executive and business “friendly” terms.

Location:
Flexible, can support a remote location, but regular travel and attendance in the Firm offices as required.
